Helping you make a claim

What you probably need most when making a claim is someone to help make it as simple and straight forward as possible. If you do find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to make a claim, CIP Insurance Brokers will guide you through the process.

Let’s start with some essential information and numbers you can call in the event of a claim. You can, of course, choose to deal your insurers directly and a contact line is available in your policy booklet.

What to do in cases of a vehicle accident, fire or theft ?

What information do I need?

Checklist for reporting an accident:

  • Registration numbers of the vehicles involved
  • Name of the company insuring each of the vehicles involved
  • Names and addresses of the other people involved and any witnesses
  • Sketch of the scene and a written account of the circumstances that caused the accident
  • DO NOT admit responsibility, sign anything to that effect, or negotiate settlement.

You must give the following information at the scene:

  • Your name and address
  • The name and address of the vehicle owner (if not yourself)
  • Vehicle registration and insurance details (to the police if present at the scene)
  • Where a person or persons are injured the accident must be reported (from the scene) to the police

What information do I need?

  • Details of your loss
  • An estimate for repair or replacement
  • Insurance companies may wish to send representatives to inspect the damage
  • You must not proceed with repairs (unless emergency) without the insurer’s approval
  • Do not dispose of damaged articles before examination by the insurer, or without their approval
  • Report any loss involving theft or malicious damage immediately to the police
